UAE payroll and WPS: a ground-truth guide for Indian companies expanding

By Noor Al-Mansouri · 28 September 2025

Wages Protection System, end-of-service gratuity, Ramadan calendar adjustments. A concrete playbook for the India HQ making its first UAE hire.

The Wages Protection System (WPS) is the MOHRE-mandated salary payment rail. Your UAE employees' salaries must land through it, via a certified bank or exchange house. Your payroll system needs to generate SIF files that conform — field-for-field — to the MOHRE specification.

End-of-service gratuity accrues 21 days per year for the first five years of service and 30 days thereafter, capped at two years of salary. Your system should be accruing this liability in real time, not computing it on separation day.

The Ramadan calendar matters for attendance rules — reduced working hours for all employees regardless of faith — and for compliance reporting. Automate the adjustment; don't rely on a Slack reminder.
